Best. Day. Ever.

I can’t get the song ‘Surrounded’ by Michael Smith out of my head.

The words are simple, but so powerful:

This is how I fight my battles. It may look like I’m surrounded, but I’m surrounded by you.

Life is hard.

The past couple of months have been filled with terminal diagnoses, letting go of friendships and relationships, more serious illnesses, and challenging financial decisions. It would be so easy to focus on the negativity of it all, but instead I see it as a season of pruning. That brings me so much joy.

God has got a great sense of humor because I asked and He answered. He planted me where I am before I even knew what His plan was for me. When I made the choice to follow Jesus – to live a life that is no longer about me – I chose to let go of MY plans and trust in HIS plans.

I pretty much threw my hands up like Carrie Underwood and said Jesus, take the wheel. And like the glorious hero He is, God removed obstacles that kept me from moving forward. He took the dead branches and cut them away to make room for the next season.

He was like: “Girl, your life is about to get a whole lot crazier and I’m going to need you to focus. All of these distractions have got to go – ain’t nobody got time for that.”

He filled my life with a church based on grace and truth. He placed a soul sister that keeps me grounded, honest, and faithful in my life months before I knew I needed one. He connected me with not one, but two community groups that help me to grow in His word in every aspect of my life everyday. He gave me affirmations daily through music, random conversations, and new friendships.

God is so good.

While I was looking at the yellow strips on the highway and counting the miles, He was sitting at the next destination just waiting for me to show up.

People always say that God never gives us more than we can handle. That’s false. He gives us more than we can handle on a regular basis to remind us of how much we need him.

You may be lost, but you are only one prayer; one hope; one step away from being found. Don’t give up in the battles of this life. Fight them surrounded by a love that never fails, never gives up, and never ends.

Choose to fight those battles with joy and anticipation for what is coming next.
